To create, expand, and offer options, for youth, to enhance growth, personal development, and academic success through the study of African culture, music, and dance.
ADEFUA VISION The "Adefua Model" is one of the national standards for K-12 youth education. For African cultural centers to be developed in all major cities worldwide that utilize the "Adefua Model" in which education, economic development, youth employment, and human services will be the areas of focus.

Columbia Center for Education and Arts (CCEA) DONATE Donations made to Adefua Cultural Education Workshop are excepted on behalf of our building fund as well as our annual workshops and programs.
The Columbia Center for Education and Arts will be a Youth Education Center serving residents of Southeast Seattle and surrounding communities. it is a collaborative of community-based organizations that have united to create synergy, bridge differences, and provide a continuum of educational and cultural opportunities.
CCEA Goals Include:
Serving as an educational, cultural, and economic resource and gathering place for the community
A "Hub" of stabilization and empowerment through provision of social service, education, and acculturation for immigrant families
Providing prevention programs for youth that promote pro-social engagement like after hours arts programs that facilitate self-expression, mentor-ship, role-modeling, etc.
Strengthen families through opportunities for engagement, multi-generational programming, and services
Our Mission is to have 25 chapter locations world-wide administering the Rites of Passage Vision to young girls in need of mentor-ship.
As we are based in Seattle, we are inviting prospective chapters to be a part of this experience!Each gathered day activity will include: Meditation, Stimulation, Motivation, History, Setting goals, Guest Speaker(s), Validation, Cultural Arts and Review! Each week a 3 hour program will be offered

Are you interested in a Female Rites of Passage Experience for Adolescent Young-Adults transitioning to a well balanced life?
Requirements: Each chapter is required to mentor a minimum of 4 girls that meet a minimum of 3 hours a week. Our trainings will be held via tele-seminar and webcam so internet access must be in place as well as a facilitator who will supervise the girls of age 13 to 21. All projects culminate December 2010.
These residency projects are inter-active hands on, in classroom activities. All activity choices are suitable for all benchmarks (I, II & III) for all grade levels that are referenced with the essential learning requirements.
Introduction
A call and response of singing and greetings with each other in another language. Understand arts concepts and vocabulary.
Dance
The student make connections within and across the arts to other disciplines, life, cultures, and work. The dance tells a story of a tradition. To understand and demonstrate their interpretation of dance within a cultural arts concept.
Drumming
Simplistic drum patterns in orchestration will be introduced. To apply to a responding and creative process in the arts. To Understand an apply arts styles from various artists, cultures and times.
Various Percussion Hand Instruments
The student communicates through the arts. To refine and extend arts skills and techniques.
African Games, Histories (Stories) and Song
The student demonstrates thinking skills using artistic processes. To apply a creative process in the arts; conceptualize the context or purpose, gather information from diverse sources, develop ideas and principles for the purpose of elaboration and refine work based on call and response feedback.
Costume / Prop Making
Choices of making costumes, Jewelry. To compare and contrast specific attributes of artworks that reflects culture and history and the world of work.
The Odunde Festival is our annual African Harvest Festival where you'll hear real African drumming, take a dance workshop, experience an African marketplace, and music
